Software for Tradies

Jobber alternative for UK trades: the dollar problem, the real pricing, and a different shape

Jobber is probably the most polished job management app on the market. It is also priced in dollars, billed in dollars, and built first for a bloke in Ontario with a snow plough. If you have ever watched a software subscription wobble up and down on your bank statement with the exchange rate, you already know why UK tradespeople go looking for a Jobber alternative. Here is the honest picture.

What Jobber gets right

Start with the credit, because there is plenty.

Jobber is slick. The scheduling, the client manager, the online booking, the reporting: all of it is polished to a level most trade software does not reach. The app marketplace connects it to over 100 other tools. Quotes look professional, customers can accept them online, and the client hub gives your customer a proper portal for approvals and payments.

The automation on the upper plans is genuinely useful: automatic appointment reminders, automatic payment collection, and quote and invoice follow ups that fire themselves. There is even an AI receptionist add on for answering calls, which shows they understand where the industry is heading.

If you run a crew, want deep reporting, and your customers expect a customer portal, Jobber deserves its reputation. This is not a hatchet job.

The pricing, verified, and the currency catch

These numbers come straight from the Jobber pricing page, solo operator plans, checked September 2026. Their page says it plainly: all prices in USD.

PlanMonthly billingAnnual billingWhat you get
Core$49 per month$29 per monthQuotes, invoices, scheduling, payments, reporting
Connect$139 per month$99 per monthAdds automated reminders, automatic payments, quote and invoice follow ups, QuickBooks sync
Grow$199 per month$149 per monthAdds two way SMS, job costing, custom automations

Three things to notice as a UK buyer.

First, the currency. Your bank converts every charge, so the real monthly cost moves with the exchange rate, plus whatever your card charges for foreign transactions. The number on your statement is never quite the number on the pricing page.

Second, the gap between monthly and annual. That $49 Core price is $29 only if you pay a year up front. Ask anyone who has been through a slow January whether they enjoy annual software bills.

Third, and this is the one that matters: the features a solo trade actually wants, the automatic follow ups and reminders, live in Connect. At monthly billing that is $139 a month, which is over £100 for one user. The useful Jobber is the expensive Jobber.

The UK shaped gaps

The queue of UK specific niggles is real but should not be overstated. Jobber does operate here and has UK customers.

Still. It is a North America first product. Invoice conventions, tax language and defaults lean US and Canadian, so you spend setup time bending it to VAT and UK formats rather than having them arrive ready. Support hours and the phone number on the website are North American. None of this is fatal. All of it is friction that UK first tools simply do not have, and you are paying a premium price while absorbing it.

For comparison, the same category has UK options with GBP pricing and VAT built in. We have compared the big ones honestly: Tradify, ServiceM8, and Powered Now. Each wins different boxes, and all six sit side by side with verified prices in the best job management software for UK trades.

The shape question, again

Every tool named so far shares an assumption: the work is already in the system. Somebody answered the enquiry, qualified the job, and typed it in. Jobber then manages it beautifully.

But in a one or two person trade business, nobody is at a desk to do that first bit. The customer who messaged three firms at 9am has picked someone by lunch. Jobber's follow up automation is excellent at chasing a quote you sent, and silent on the enquiry you never saw. The follow up playbook itself is worth stealing regardless of software, we wrote it up in quote follow up for tradesmen.

That first gap is what an AI receptionist exists for, and it is the half Vanly starts from: the enquiry gets answered inside 30 seconds, in WhatsApp, before your competitor has taken his gloves off. Then the voice note becomes the quote, the invoice goes out, and the late payer gets chased. In pounds, at £39 flat.

Who should stick with Jobber

Honest list.

Stick with Jobber if you run a proper team with a dispatcher, want deep reporting, and your customers expect a portal. It is the most polished thing in the category and the price makes more sense spread across a crew.

Stick with it if you are already invested: your job history, your automations, your QuickBooks sync. Switching costs are real and the grass is not always greener.

And stick with it if annual billing does not scare you and the dollar price works out. At $29 a month annual for Core, it is competitively priced, provided you can live without the automation tier.

Who should look elsewhere

If you are a UK solo trade paying monthly, the honest maths is harsh: the Jobber that does what you want costs over £100 a month in a foreign currency, and it still starts working only after the enquiry has been captured.

If the leak in your week is enquiries missed and quotes going out late, the answer is not a better dashboard. It is not having to be at a desk at all.

FAQ

Does Jobber charge in pounds for UK customers?

No. Jobber's pricing page states all prices are in USD. Your bank converts each charge, so the sterling cost varies with the exchange rate and any foreign transaction fees on your card.

Is Jobber good for UK tradesmen at all?

Yes, with caveats. The product is polished and it does operate in the UK. The trade offs are dollar billing, North American defaults you work around, and the automation features sitting in the $139 a month Connect tier.

What is the cheapest way to run Jobber?

Core on annual billing at $29 a month, paid up front for the year. You give up the automated reminders, automatic payments and follow ups, which are the features most solo trades are buying this category of software for.

Does Jobber have an AI receptionist?

It offers one as an add on, focused on answering calls. It costs extra on top of the plan. With Vanly the enquiry answering is the core product rather than a bolt on, and it covers WhatsApp and missed calls in one place.

What does Vanly cost compared to Jobber?

Vanly is £39 a month flat, in pounds, everything included. Jobber runs $49 to $199 a month billed monthly, or $29 to $149 on annual billing, in dollars. Both have a 14 day free trial with no card.

The bottom line

Jobber is excellent software with a pricing page written for a different country. For a UK crew with a dispatcher it can absolutely earn its keep. For a UK solo trade paying monthly, you are looking at three figures a month in dollars for the tier that automates anything, and it still cannot answer the enquiry that creates the job.
